Jersey College marks 5,000th Graduate!
Celebrating 5,000 graduates is a very special milestone for our institution. It is a celebration of 5,000 individuals who believed in their dream, worked hard to strive towards their goal, and chose to join Jersey College to achieve it. With 5,000 graduates, there are 5,000 stories… all unique… from many different backgrounds, students from different stages of their lives, obstacles that may have felt unbearable at times, unexpected challenges… but all 5,000 journeys share one common purpose – achieve a dream in nursing. A dream that our students are so passionate about. As our alumni embrace new careers in the nursing profession and touch lives daily with their career choice, we take great pride in their journey. A walk in a nurse’s shoes is a tireless, unpredictable, fast paced, demanding trek but the footprints they leave behind in all the lives they touch are worth every step.
Here are some of the quotes shared from real Jersey College nursing students at each campus about their trials and triumphs…
“I believe that Jersey College - School of Nursing can be compared to a mother. From the first day that I toured the Tampa campus, Jersey College has been a source of guidance, comfort, and support to me. Just as a mother sets goals and motivates her children to strive for excellence, Jersey College’s family of instructors and teachers has done likewise for me. With the final quarter of school approaching and graduation on the horizon, Jersey College can look at each graduate with a mother’s pride, watching how each of us have grown and thrived. I have been taught and trained here at Jersey College that adequate is only a starting point, education is a constant in nursing, and that each and every one of us can make a positive impact on the world.”
A student from the Teterboro campus shares their perspective on nursing; “There is a sense of accomplishment at the end of every day knowing you played a part in someone’s journey to recovery. It is one of the most rewarding aspects of nursing. It is a humbling profession that enables you to give back to humanity.”
Largo campus student gives insight about the importance of compassion and nursing skills that can’t be taught: “The greatest adventure that our life has to offer us is the ability of being able to dream. Jersey College gives me the ability to not only reach my dream but to also turn it into something so much more. Being a nurse is far more than just passing out medication and doing some charting. It is more than just a paycheck. There is not a textbook that can teach you how to tell someone that their loved one has passed away or that they are being transferred to hospice because they are dying. There is not even a class that can teach you how to cry with them or how to hold their head up when you personally cannot even hold yourself up. Being a nurse means loving the unlovable and having compassion while you do it.”
A student from the Jacksonville campus tells about their experience in joining the Jersey College family; “During orientation for the LPN to RN bridge program, I was inspired by the faculty and the senior class that gave us words of encouragement. I was impressed by the warm and welcoming environment. At that time, I learned of all the resources that are available to assist me in my journey of becoming a Registered Nurse. Everyone was so happy and enthusiastic; it was then that I realized that Jersey College is not just a school; I have become a part of a family for the next twenty-one months and for the rest of my career because they’ve shown that they actually care about you as a person.”
A Ewing campus student shares her journey as a student returning to school later in life: “When I applied, I was not sure that I would be accepted into the program. You would have to place yourself in my shoes to see what I mean when I say that. I was a 51 year old new widow, and the last time I was in a class room was almost 20 years ago, and the last time that I was interviewed was 10 years prior to all this, and the last time I checked my confidence was at its lowest. I speak from my heart when I say that I am so grateful to this school and staff for having me be part of this incredible journey. This program is not easy and the instructors will let it be known that you will work hard to reach your goal, and I am here to tell you that you can accomplish that goal. Jersey College equips each and every one of us with the tools needed to graduate. You just have to be willing to use them and ask for help when you need it.”
A student from the Fort Lauderdale campus shares why Jersey College is like a second home: “I jokingly go around campus and say Jersey College is my second home. Not just because I spend most of my awakening hours on campus, but because I have gained a foundation of remarkable people I would consider my college family.”
