My first day of Clinical during Nursing School
My first day of Clinical
Vanessa I., RN Graduate
My first day of clinical is one that I will never forget. I was at Kindred Hospital on the Intensive Care Unit. I was so excited for this experience because this is the area I wanted to specialize in. The hospital was very fast paced, and I loved it! My clinical instructor assigned me to assist one of the nurses on the unit. Throughout the day I was exposed to many patients with vast array of ailments and extreme diagnoses.
It takes the best of the best to work in a hospital ICU. I was taught very valuable techniques during my practicum on this unit. I remember learning about core measures and IV drug administration. The nurse I was paired with was very knowledgeable and inquisitive. She would test my critical thinking skills and was very encouraging. I will remember my experience with the ICU staff for my entire nursing career. Their skills with patients and the nursing students, reminded me why I wanted to be a nurse.
I completed my LPN training at Jersey College and recently graduated from the RN Bridge program. I just received confirmation that I have been hired at a local hospital on the Med-Surg unit and can’t wait to start the next chapter in my nursing career!
